GREATEST WORKS OF CHARLES DICKENS

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. . . . With these famous words, Charles Dickens plunges the reader into one of history's most explosive eras the French Revolution. From the storming of the Bastille to the relentless drop of the guillotine, Dickens vividly captures the terror and upheaval of that tumultuous period. At the Center is the novel's hero, Sydney Carton, a lazy, alcoholic attorney who, inspired by a women, makes the supreme sacrifice on the bloodstained streets of Paris. One of Dickens' most exciting novels, a Tale of Two Cities is a stirring classic of love, revenge and resurrection. A Christmas Carol is a novella about miserly, cold, unfeeling, old and curmudgeonly Ebenezer Scrooge and his secular conversion and redemption after being visited by four ghosts on Christmas Eve. The Chimes is a short novel carrying Dickens' strong social and moral messages that he published during the 1840s.
Originally published in 1865, Doctor Marigold is a "Cheap Jack" or what we would call a street peddler. Doctor Marigold's fortunes reverse when he adopts a deaf and mute girl whose mother is dead and whose stepfather, owner of a traveling circus, beats her.
The Haunted Man and the Ghost's Bargain is a novella by Charles Dickens first published in 1848. It is the last of Dickens' Christmas novellas. The story is more about the spirit of the holidays than about the holidays themselves, harkening back to the first of the series, 'A Christmas Carol'.
